Finally the post you've all been waiting for! Baby Molly finally joined our family on March 6th. Here's the story...
My due date was Tuesday March 10th, however we were hopeful the baby would come sooner because Bennett was 10 days early. Much to my dismay, the baby was content to stay in my belly. My sister had planned to fly in on the Friday March 6th and leave on the 10th (my due date). The doctors were willing to induce since Bennett had been so big even early, Dr. Wolowick was on call Friday (and was going to let Lincoln deliver), and of course we didn't want Kim to miss the baby. So we scheduled to go in at 7am on Friday the 6th (so, sorry, not a fully natural Alamo Day baby).
The timing worked out perfect, the doctor Lincoln was working with that month was taking vacation the following week. That meant Lincoln would be able to be at home the whole time after we brought the baby home from the hospital. Also my sister's husband Cory decided to come out too and he was able to fly in Thursday night to help watch Bennett the next morning.
We woke up early that morning and Lincoln made me a nice big breakfast of bacon and eggs. We knew it would be my last meal until after I had the baby. We got to the hospital just before 8. There was no rush seeing how I didn't get my IV until 9:30. By 10:00 they had started the Pitocin and had it up to a 6 by noon. I was still only dilated to a 3 so Lincoln went home to have lunch with Bennett. He came back about an hour later still no change but the contractions were a lot stronger. I asked for the epidural, but the nurse convinced me to wait til the doctor came which was supposed to be around 2:00. She also suggested sitting on "the peanut" (laboring ball shaped more like an hourglass than an actual peanut) to see if it would help move things along. After sitting there for 45min with increased contractions and still no doctor, I was really ready for an epidural. The nurse checked me and I was dilated to an 6! The peanut was a success. The Anesthesiologist came just before 3:00 and game me an epidural. After he was done I was feeling like I needed to push so the nurse checked me again and I was at an 8 and my water was ready to break. Finally the doctor arrived and broke my water. After a few more contractions she said we were ready to start pushing. Lincoln changed into his scrubs and gown for delivery. I pushed for about 20 minutes and Lincoln was able to catch the baby with guidance from the doctor. Lincoln announced that it was a girl and I finally was able to just relax and hold Molly.
She weighed 8lbs 8oz and was 21in long.
